Growing up in England, Jessica developed a commitment to social issues, including education, social mobility and refugee rights. Through her work and volunteering, she supported communities facing a range of challenges. For Jessica, Afua Collective was a way to bring together her passion for supporting communities and her love for Ghana.

While teaching in Busua, a village in Ghana’s Western Region, Jessica learned about the barriers children faced in accessing education. This experience inspired Project Aya.

A visit to an orphanage in Tema inspired Project Akoma. Seeing the challenges facing the children and the dedication of the women keeping it running, Jessica wanted to help. Drawing on her experience of a similar project with Afrocats, a UK charity supporting refugees, she began shaping Project Akoma to bring practical support and moments of joy to the children in their care.

The next chapter brings Jessica’s love of music into Afua Collective’s story. Alongside her work as a digital project manager, she is also a DJ. In 2027, she has pledged to donate 50% of her DJ profits to Afua Collective, using her music to help fund the projects inspired by her experiences in Ghana.
